Ridiculing the Future Leaders of Tomorrow!

Children are supposed to be the leaders of tomorrow...But when this happens, what do you do to such parents?

Anger is built within me when I see things such as this. How much will these children bring home from what they are made to hawk?!  The other day, a child was kidnapped and killed.

We need to stand up against such abuse as this. No one has a right to treat these little ones as thus.

No matter the level of poverty, it should not degenerate to ridiculing the leaders of tomorrow.

Parents, beware.

Plane Crash in Lagos...Yet another one too soon!

It is quite sad when things such as this occur. You wonder that couldn't this have been prevented? Nigeria is getting popular for distasteful happenings. The Boko Haram killings has almost become a norm in the dailies and news.. Now its another sad event of a plane crash!

Gone are the days when plane crashes are attributed to bad weather and terrorists' activities. It is sad that presently in Nigeria, it is more of human error and negligence on the part of the authorities and airliners. I mentioned it the other day when a little boy became a 'celeb' for being a Stowaway on an airline...and our political 'Agbayas' could come to the press and say all sorts... Now another tragedy. Why won't we allow the dead sleep in peace?

I feel sorry for the total Nigeria populace flying the local planes. You just can't tell what fate follows the next flight you want to board. I can imagine some airline engineers who chuckled over a weak aircraft engine and puts on their wishful cap that the plane makes it for the thousandth trip!

I sincerely condole with the bereaved and pray that God should grant them the fortitude to bear the loss of their loved ones.

Well, for me, I sincerely pray for a safe landing in Nigeria soon!

Till then, great time ahead folks!

Absurdity birthing Sham Heroism!

How funny life can be. It is surprising that I am also writing about this dude. Daniel Oikhena is the boy that stowaway on an Arik airline...Alas! Meet the new teenage hero. A Nigeria version of a role model for his peer!

Sometimes, I just feel this country is a joke! A big joke with several jokers who play with the indigenes' destiny. The leaders in the country seems to be clueless at various happenings in the country.

We hear of news such as amnesty for tyrants and militants; round table dialogue and goodies for terrorists; 53 gold-plated iPhone for Nigeria's 53rd anniversary...and making a hero out of a stowaway Dan!

Did anyone ever imagined what would have been the fate of the passengers of that airline if the boy was mangled and thereby jammed the landing gears? Would this still be a celebrated event? I am totally at a loss at the country's sense of correctness and standard of behaviour. There was at no point this lad got reprimanded or subjected to chastisement for his action.

Well, if your child is a Michael Scofield's fan, you better be on the look out. He might just be to stowaway on the next flight heading to Afghan or Syria. Personally, I think if anything is being done to help this lad, it should be off the media and not make his actions a heroic one. I don't want to sound like a prophet of doom but mark my words, we will have a replay of this occurrence within the next 30 days.

Believe it or not, I am out of here for now... Great day folks

Riding with the Landing Gears!

Wonders never cease to end in this part of the world. I cannot get over the shock till this moment. This young man has broken a record...he rode in the tyre compartment of an aircraft! Gosh!

I remember the discomfort I feel with the airtight cabin whenever I am air bound. How could he have survived if not for divine grace! I wonder what was going through his mind when he embarked on the journey. When interviewed, he mentioned he thought the aircraft was heading to America!

Who is to blame? His parents? The Airline? Airport Authorities? Government? Society? Friends? Devil? Himself? The list is endless. He claimed that he was being maltreated by his parents and he wanted to escape.

I feel sorry for the young lad but I believe he needs to be put under strict monitoring in a Boys' Remand Home. The parents too should be fined for negligence and the airline...Well, I am not sure I can comfortably ride with that airline again. It simply means that their check is not 100% error proof. The Landing gear could as well get jammed if the 'future occupants' are not well positioned.

On a lighter note, I guess the boy offered to pay half the fare so that was the  only available space for the fees paid.

It's a Monday and there is work to be done so...

Have a great day folks!

'Ageless' Grads in Government Offices

Hmmmm... Wonders never cease to end in this part of the country! After a very tiring day yesterday and getting home to the 10:00pm news, I was shocked at the revelation. Alas! I present to you, the most ingenious graduates of all times! Ondo State local government workers! Some of these staff were weeded out of the ministry based on their age declaration.

The ministry discovered that the age that a number of these staff claimed shows that some of them were age 2 when they left primary school. It is grossly ludicrous that some of the claims show that a number of these workers graduated from primary school even before they were born!!!! That is what I call "Ageless Graduates"

Imagine your unborn child coming out with a certificate of learning. And one will want to ask that were these people not interviewed before they were recruited? Or were there no documentations made or background checks on the documents submitted? Well, I like the cliche that interprets that one is only running against time when you falsify information; the truth will always come to the fore.

Beautifully, these pack have been exited from the ministry and local government. I really wish other government offices will do this and rid us of 'mountebanks' fattening up on tax payers' money.

Ok guys, off to my desk. Got work to do!

Great day folks!

Spiritual or Physical Guards for MOGs!

Providing Spiritual & Physical Guards
Hello Peeps once again! Well, I always love to share some things I see on the streets and amazes me.

I was in my humble car driving to church on a Sunday in my quiet neighbourhood. I was suddenly waved aside to give way to a military truck filled with Soldiers coming ahead. I had to quickly stir off their track to allow for them to pass.

An average young man in my country here would have done likewise because I thought there was a lead on some of the terrorist insurgent or a security red alert... But Lagos is relatively peaceful and not on the threat list??? What could be happening? Could there be a national security alert or a top military official approaching my avenue?

I was bemused when I saw the occupant of the exotic 2012 4matic SUV that tailed the military truck. Tada!!! A Man of God!(MOG). My respect for the national security turned to shock for MOGs.

I have seen presidents and prime ministers walk alone with little or no security personnel in their country. Are they not under threat too? I tried to make a reasonable excuse for the MOG but seriously, I could not find any! Could it be a threat from some members? Or from some other MOG? Possibly, there was a security lead. The SUV was chauffeured by another soldier. All of them STERN LOOKING! Wow!

I simply sighed and faced my driving after the brief moment of revelation...this time, physical and not spiritual.

Now friends, don't be shocked the next time you find jet fighters and armoured carriers as escort to your MOG and all clad in bulletproofs.

....oooops!!! My boss just walked in...

Have a great day folks!

Police or Thief...

Hmmmmm...Wonders they say will never end. We were told as children that the police is your friend. So we engage in the popular chase game called "Police and Thief". The police was the good guy while the thief remains the bad one. Reverse is the case in this part of the world.

The police in Nigeria are full of vices...Bribery, Corruption, Extortion, Wrong arrest, Particulars, Lying under oats and you name it! They got it all. I remembered losing my ID to crooks. I was asked to visit a police station to get a statement of police report. I was offered the report at a discount outside the police station but as a law abiding one, I walked into the station. I got a shocker of my life when I was billed double of the offer outside! Gosh!

Police is your friend...Can someone tell these clowns to please change that line...You dare not report a robbery incident at some police station! You will be locked up as first hand suspect.

Well, this guy was caught in the act...or more so

2014 Lexus IS. Future Car Now!

Lexus has blown the minds of Auto freaks once again with its most recent launch of exotic cars... Lexus IS 2014 series. Wow! The entire machine has been redesigned and given extra features such as extra wheelbase which gives it a muscular and menacing appearance.

The interior of the Lexus IS 2014 is exquisitely designed for extreme comfort. The performance is superb and highly rated above the 2013 Lexus IS with its' 8 speed auto transmission! Wow! Really, no hard shoulders...!

You will be amazed to know that this whole lot with all of its' feature is about $40k! That's one super ride you'd love to have in your fleet.

Don't be surprised if you see me cruising in some days' time with my new machine...Really, I need to review this ride in Africa if Lexus is reading!!!

Nice day ahead folks

Herald the Arrival of The Royal Baby

Babies are gifts from God to mankind. It is nice to know that some babies are born and their destinies are set even before their birth! I was surprised at the amazing welcome of the royal baby! Such display of love and emotions.

Kate and William are just two blessed individuals from the royal family. They have displayed such superb level of humility and friendliness. 'Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, emerged from St. Mary's Hospital in London on Tuesday evening to give the public its first view of the new heir to the British throne, joking that the still-unnamed boy had more hair than his father.' How much love being blown in the air.

One cannot but marvel at the shower of love from the entire British community. The funniest things life throws our ways...Imagine the number of babies born that same day. World over...Kenya, Nigeria, Namibia, Sri-Lanka, India, Pakistan, USA, Belgium, Brazil, South Africa, North Korea & a dozen places where babies were given birth to that same day. Alas, The Royal Baby chose that same day to arrive the world.

How I wish...

Anyway folks, I gotta get back to work or else, I may not get a credit alert next month...

Nice day Folks.

Scourge of Paid Employment

In my years of working in corporate organisations, I have discovered that the employee 'almost always' believes he will get there. Where is 'there'? Uhuru. You are expected to do more in a paid employment. Also, the more you do, the more you have not done! It is called the 'CAN DO' spirit...*hmmmm* This means that you can do all things through whatever means.

I was shocked to learn that the reward for hard work in an organisation is MORE WORK! This shows you as diligent at your assigned and unassigned tasks. One begin to wonder why we still have so many unemployed and yet, seeking to get a white collar job......*modern enslavement*.

I hope I won''t be overtly cynical if I say that a number of organisations, *at least Nigerian owned organisations* now have sharp classes within the organisation, i.e the Rich and the Poor. One factor constant  with the rich is that they get richer and vice versa, the 'poor' get worse off. There is always a sacrificial lamb for the rich to get richer *I meant that literally anyway*...like someone getting fired to cut down on expenses.

What is the end of the matter? *taking a cue from the Holy Books* The rewards of a teacher they say is in heaven. I guess an employee too might just fit in well.

What do you have in your hands? I now champion a school of thoughts that strictly believes that "if you don't leave your work, your work will leave you at a time". *borrowed quote* Learn a trade. Sharpen your inborn skills. Be diligent with your talents. Improve on yourself. Stop searching for jobs. Start working on yourself. You can make it if you really try...but you have to TRY!

Great day folks!

Nigeria Disgusting! Did Kim Kardashian Tweet?

Really!!! Surprised to have this trendy information about 6 hours ago! Could it be real that Kim of the Kardashian family actually tweet that Nigeria is such a disgusting country? Well, one can never be sure of what these young girls can say on social media.

I doubt if she would say such after coming to Nigeria and spending less than an hour or so. It would be grossly wrong to have said such.. Currently, this is unconfirmed as it is not seen on her tweeter handle for now. Some speculations claims that she had deleted it.

We can always wait and see if she would come up with a statement debunking this rumour. You cannot call a whole country disgusting when you have practically not met the 'real' people. I plead with fellow Naija to temper justice with mercy as these words are not confirmed yet!

Anyway, we need to make our country a better place by being positive at all times.

Great day folks!

Chaz B & Sharing Life Issues

Sharing Life Issues on Inspiration FM has been a radio programme that a number of average Lagosians love to listen to. The radio call in show allows people share extreme life's experiences and enjoy the grace of being anonymous.

Chaz B (Chaz Bruce) has been the ace presenter in a long while. He was off air for a while based on his health situation but returned to doing his thing on air after treatments overseas. Chaz B as popularly referred to has a great hold on the programme as he renders advice to troubled and distressed individuals.

However, there is a rumour that he recently resigned. It came as a shock when the news went viral yesterday (6/03/2013). The baritone voice presenter has a unique style of presentation, which several listeners look forward to after a stressful day. A number of callers reveal things that they cannot share with friends and family. Secrets are let off and callers render great assistance in giving advise to those in need.

Nwanna Nwanna who has been a protege of Chaz B has taken the mantle for the time being. Valerie is also on ground and we believe Dan Foster will give full support.

We can only hope and pray that the radio maestro will receive comfort and grace everywhere he goes because he is a lovable personality. Well, we can surely expect the best from the rest of the Inspiration FM crew.

Have a great day Folks!

Damilola Damoche SHOT!

RISING STAR CUT OFF
The up and coming hip hop artiste, Damilola Olaniyan (Damouche) was shot dead on the 28th day of February, 2013. He was on his way out of school when his assailants track him down and shot him in the head. He was obviously shot at very close range due to the impact on the skin.

It came as a shock to the students of the Lagos State university, Ojo since the school had enjoyed several years free of blood bath. Rumour has it that the killing might not be too far from the rival cult attacks within the school environment. LASU was a school that used to be volatile when it comes to such issues.

He was last seen to have tweeted his forth coming album in April. One cannot seem to wonder the state of insecurity in our present society. One cannot tell what will hit him or her at the very next second.

This is another great loss that has hit the entertainment industry in Nigeria. We can only pray that the Lord will grant the relatives the fortitude to bear the loss.

Have a great day folks!

Eko Atlantic City; Megacity On Water

The much talked about Mega city project kicks off today, 21st February, 2013. The Eko Atlantic City is to be launched today by the Governor of Lagos State, Barrister at law, Babatunde Fashola (SAN). He is to be supported by our own very amiable president of the federal republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan (GCFR) and past president of the United State of America, Bill Clinton. E kaa bo (We welcome you)

The imagery that pervades this project is highly sublime and so lofty. It shows a perfect state where there is no hustle and bustle; serenity and a virtual state of excellence. One cannot cease to wonder if this is what is presently in Lagos.

The Governor has really transformed the state immensely (thanks to all of us that are heavily taxed) and he has great ambitions still. However, what is not right is robbing Peter to pay Paul. We cannot neglect certain areas within this same state and claim we are building  a metropolitan city. Just take a visit to some of the core locations in Lagos and.... I leave that to your judgment.

Well, back to Eko Atlantic!!! For the Island workers today, it is gonna be traffic galore. All roads will certainly be closed down.(I so pity myself). It would be a bad memory for the coming investors to be locked down by our trademark,"bumper2bumper". Clinton and uncle Jonah cannot afford to be held in such undignified traffic jams. They can be exempted and spared the hassles. What of the 'REAL TAX PAYERS'? Who gives a damn! We can all rot in traffic jam. All of us will be herded probably towards western avenue through Falomo or some 'lungu' around Ikoyi!

Anyway sha, I congratulate all of us in Lagos. GidiMetro wishes us all a happy Atlantic City opening. Just call your loved ones that you might be coming home late today. We always know how to make ourselves happy. #Gala!!!!! gimmie two#

Justice Esiri Bows Out to Death.

There seems to be a knoll over the Nollywood industry as we have recorded a number of deaths within the last 6 months. Justice Esiri, the popular actor who have seen the different phases of Nigeria's film industry is dead. Sources revealed that the veteran died yesterday evening.

Esiri came to the fore media in Nigeria when he starred in the Nigerian TV series, 'Village Headmaster'. His role was greatly felt in the TV media from way back.

His prolific nature got him several roles in the new Nigeria Movie industry, Nollywood. He was always coming up in the best of Nigeria's home videos.

Justice Esiri's successes became more prominent upon the discovery of his son's talents in music. Dr. Sid as popularly referred to is a proud son of the late legendary actor. Entertainment obviously runs in the family.

No doubt, Justice Esiri will be greatly missed in the Nigeria movie industry. We can only condole with the family and wish that God will grant them the fortitude to bear the loss. We love you Esiri but God loves you more.

Great day ahead folks!

Goldie Harvey of BBA Dies at 28

REST IN PEACE DEAR
Goldie Harvey is dead. Goldie as popularly referred to was a participant in the last Big Brother Africa reality show. She died in the late hours of Thursday, 14th of February, 2013. She was last seen with her bosom friend, Denrele.

Goldie arrived the shores of Nigeria just yesterday, which was valentine's day. She was a guest at the Grammy Awards. She got to Nigeria safely and was already with her friends. Sources revealed that she fell ill and weak suddenly. She was immediately rushed to the Reddington Hospital. There was where she breathed her last.

Goldie was seen as the Nigerian version of American ace singer, Lady Gaga with her chosen identity and disposition. She was known as prolific singer in Nigeria. Her popularity grew when she was finally a housemate in the last Big Brother Africa. She was also very close with a fellow housemate, Prezzo whom it was rumored that she was getting married.

Some medical practitioners also suspected that the cause of death might be due to a medical situation called Pulmonary embolism (PE), which is usually a blood clot in the deep veins of the legs or pelvis that breaks off and migrates to the lung. It is just speculations though.

Goldie was 28 years as at the time of death.

We pray that her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen

Love. Passion. Friendship. It's Valentine

IT'S VALENTINE
Red is the colour of love! "This is a great opportunity to tell you how much I care and love you. I have..." Loads and loads of lyrics from guys to ladies and the other way round. In fact, several great poets will arise today being valentine.

What do you think about valentine? What is your concept of love? How should couples celebrate Val? Is there an age band to participating? Over the years.many believed that Val's day is restricted to 'lovers' and 'daters'. Contrary is the case now.
We have churches, schools, institutions and even families organise beautiful Valentine's programs to have their loved ones close by. This has been a welcome idea in recent times. Val's day is really a time out to share with somebody. Share love and friendship. Help someone who is down back up. Extend a hand of love to someone who needs to be cared for.

Valentine is not about indiscriminate show of passion through unchaste lovemaking or flirtatious dispositions. Many underage are seen all over the place lurking with opposite gender. An adult passes and hails them! This is decadence at its peak.

Please in your celebration today, let it be with moderation especially if you are not married. AIDS is real. And also, pregnancy is after two weeks oo!

Have fun guys!

The Real Champions

The Super Eagles arrived Nigeria yesterday in grand style. It was such a sight to behold. Amidst roaring crowd and cheering fans were the hero.

The hall was filled with the high and mighty. The who is who in the Nigeria political terrain. The 'Agbadas and Babarigas' were flowing in their numbers. The MC had  to practically  herd these moguls back to their seat...hmmmm #LipSealed#

Who are the real champions? Uncle Joe? Remember he presides over the country...or is it Keshi? He is the head coach you know...or the fans? Remember many lost hope on this team at the qualifying levels and tagged them 'Super Chickens'..#looool#

Anyway, success has many brothers and sisters but failure doesn't. We need to constantly believe in what is ours and what is national. Kudos to the real champs, the Super Eagles!

Shocking!!! Pope Benedict XVI

And the Sage Bows Out
It was indeed an emotional one for many faithfuls at the revelation by the Senior Pontiff of Rome. Pope Benedict XVI publicly announced his resignation from the office as the Bishop of Rome and Successor of St. Peter. He was anointed as the pope on the 25th of April 2005.

Several reactions had been on since the announcement of his resignation. Opinion polls are flying wild. But from a perspective, I believe it takes great faith and courage to come out and declare one's incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to him. His humility can never be overstated as he regularly contributes to ensuring world peace at all times.

The Catholic faithfuls have never experienced this in about 500 years! This is to say that it has to be a very tough decision for the pope himself to make. The fact remains that we are all human. Below are his exact broadcast on Vatican radio:

Dear Brothers,
I have convoked you to this Consistory, not only for the three canonisations, but also to communicate to you a decision of great importance for the life of the Church. After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry.
I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only with words and deeds, but no less with prayer and suffering. However, in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognise my incapacity to adequately fulfil the ministry entrusted to me.
For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter, entrusted to me by the Cardinals on 19 April 2005, in such a way, that as from 28 February 2013, at 20:00 hours, the See of Rome, the See of Saint Peter, will be vacant and a Conclave to elect the new Supreme Pontiff will have to be convoked by those whose competence it is.
Dear Brothers, I thank you most sincerely for all the love and work with which you have supported me in my ministry and I ask pardon for all my defects. And now, let us entrust the Holy Church to the care of Our Supreme Pastor, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and implore his holy Mother Mary, so that she may assist the Cardinal Fathers with her maternal solicitude, in electing a new Supreme Pontiff. With regard to myself, I wish to also devotedly serve the Holy Church of God in the future through a life dedicated to prayer.
From the Vatican, 10 February 2013
BENEDICTUS PP XVI

Well, we can only wait and watch and trust God to uphold His church.

Great day Folks!

Super Eagles - Stand Up for the Champs!

...And the Eagles Flew!
Stand up for the champions! la...la...la...la....la! Yeah! It feels good to be with champions! I am so proud of the Eagles. They were actually super this time around. Amidst all of the accolades and praise singing, I wondered what Naija folks would have said if this guys lost.

At a point, viewers in Lagos could no longer sit as the match went into extra minutes. The tensions were rising, blood vessels were vibrating in their resting places... and alas, my blood is green!

Lagos was agog with jubilation and fire crackers all over. Even the miscreants cooperated and agreed not to rob anyone. #at least for the night#

It is fun to be winners. But what of the losers? no one is talking about them.#sad face# I think they deserve a mention too. The elephant fought tusk and size but the eagle had an overview of the terrain. Well, I will give them a thumbs up for their fighting spirit.

Great day folks! *still basking in the euphoria of the victory*

What Valentine is to Us

Hmmmm. I remember back in the days! My first ever val's date out was at Mr Biggs around PPL, Okokomaiko!(That was rather mouthful) It was such an experience borne out of love and passion. Though I almost chocked at the smokey eatery, I had a good time however. I got a gift last year too from a special friend. *blushing*

Trend has it these days that more of the younger generation (Secondary Schools) look forward to the date. I wonder if I knew what Val's day was in my days as secondary school student (book geek!) What do people really understand about the day? What's your own concept of Val's day?

Funny enough, Val's Day in Maiduguri was quite fun too! I remember during my service year over there. Even some 'Abokis' were 'chaiking' up my little students in some tongue I barely understood! *phew*! It therefore made me surmise that love is a universal language understood in various worldview.

What are your plans for this year? Do you have anyone in mind? Share your thoughts and let's know your concept of Val's day. Anyway, make sure you give someone a gift this year. Make someone smile without any strings attached.

9 days to go!

Have fun folks!

The Eagles are Flying!

Finally!!! The Eagles are flying! I am sure you were very proud to be a Nigerian after that match on Sunday. I was surprised I found myself 'scabashing' and fervent in my heart. God sure answers prayers.

How are the mighty falling! I was shocked the 'great' Emmanuel Eboue was nowhere to be heard. God gives grace to the humble and downs the proud in heart. Lesson learnt anyway.

Even when PHCN struck after the first half, gidi voice was enough for me to follow the football match. The roar of Goooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaal!!!!!! had me jumping in my living room. I give kudos to the fighting spirit of the Nigeria Team.

Well, I believe we won't be asking for too much when we request to win the AFCON 2013! It's been a long while we ever won anything as a country.#phew#

Which country do you think will win the cup? Personally, I believe Nigeria will win with a 2 -1 win against their opponent.

Great day ahead guys!

gidiMetro allows you share your unique experiences of Lagos. You can never run out of something to share. Let's talk business (yeah yeah!), fashion, style, trends, traffic, people, places, parties...in short, gists!

Loosen up folks and let's have fun all the way. We've got a story to tell. So come up on board and let's set the ball rolling. And before I forget, remember that you're the king here.
